Thursday 19 June (6:30pm)
This evening, a faint whiff of dissent is in the air at Housmans — who fittingly proclaim themselves "radical booksellers since 1945" — as they play host to Grattan Puxon and his most recent tome, Freeborn Traveller. A longtime supporter of the Travellers — an Irish minority group — Puxon imagines the lives of a young couple as they join the motley crew of nomadic folk and consequently raise the ire of the IRA, church and state. Based on real-life events in the '60s, Puxon's poignant tale starkly illustrates the struggle of free will against pervasive prejudice.
