The choreography and design team Bock & Vincenzi sets Fritz Lang's deranged Dr. Mabuse loose from the world of celluloid, rendering him free to channel King Lear, express his desire to take over the world and frighten the performers who sit captivated before him onstage. In a multimedia staging that transpires in a state of perpetual emergency, Troupe Mabuse, the fictional cast within the play, are at the beck and call of the evil doctor, in an anarchic blend of discordant sounds, live projections and grizzly cabaret. Building off Lang's films, the performers create a lawless, darkly comical pastiche that investigates the nature of terror through some famously troubled characters.
