Art Margareta Kern: Short Hi-story of My Family

Croatian-born, London-based multimedia artist Margareta Kern presents a new performance project at the Courtauld Institute of Art. Kern's artistic resourcefulness and nimble fingers may have been inherited; her grandmother embroidered in her spare time as a guest worker in Germany, and her mother re-creates haute-couture designs as a dressmaker in Bosnia. Tonight, the artist weaves together a rich tale of personal histories through video, images and textiles. Poignant and absorbing, the work merges the personal and political while astutely exploring issues relating to gender, labour and immigration.
