Art Susanna Edwards and Luke Stephenson: Jayne Amongst the Birds

In September 1959, a strange thing happened in Hackney: iconic American blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield turned up to present the prizes at a competition held by the Budgerigar and Foreign Birds Society in Haggerston's All Saints' Hall. Nearly 50 years later, on 10 May, artist Susanna Edwards re-created the event at the same venue and asked local bird owners to enter their beloved pets in categories such as Best Dressed Bird. This exhibition is in part a photographic record of that event by Luke Stephenson, who snapped shots of the winning and losing birds, as well as the Mansfield-impersonating Edwards.
