Film Atonement feat. Christopher Hampton and Rosie Goldsmith

Of all of last year's Oscar contenders, Atonement is certainly the most intensely re-watchable. The sumptuous World War II period drama starring James McAvoy and Keira Knightley may have failed to win at the American Academy Awards earlier in the year, but it remains a triumph of British filmmaking and ensemble acting. At the heart of the film is screenwriter Christopher Hampton, who appears tonight to chat with Radio 4's Rosie Goldsmith after the screening. Hampton's story is a compelling one — the writer managed to extract the film from Ian McEwan's impossibly complex novel and enhance his previously Oscar-winning reputation in the bargain.
