For one weekend a year, more than 170 gardens across the city — most of which remain locked up from the great unwashed for the other 51 — throw open their gates. Marie Clarke's architects' paradise, with its living wall and wildlife-magnet rubble roof, is open for viewing, as is the Richard Rogers/Dan Pearson-designed Maggie's Centre in Hammersmith. Kensington Roof Gardens offer flamingos and Tudor gardens, Fassett Square's got Victorian lanes to explore and Walworth Garden Farm hosts an introduction to city gardening. It's trees, flowers, oxygen and all, without the hassle of leaving the city.
