Though his name lacks an artist's extravagance, Jim Smith has a unique talent of being able to scrawl funny, yet touching illustrations — check out his thought-process introduction to this very show on his website, named after his (infinitely more interesting) pseudonym, Waldo Pancake. Smith's simple and playful style belies a powerful vision: his coffee-cup art for the Puccino's coffee chain has almost singlehandedly endowed a faceless franchise with personality. And with his Flickr site the toast of design blogs globally, it would be no surprise if one day the name "Jim Smith" became as ubiquitous as the products that bear his scribbles.
