Immerse yourself in Les Blank's lip-smacking tribute to one of the world's most enduring ingredients. Garlic is a 50-minute film that spotlights the history of the flavorful seasoning, as well as those who grow, cook and eat it. The subject may be light, but it resonates — in 2004, America's Library of Congress elected Garlic to the National Film Registry, ensuring the film's preservation for perpetuity. Blank's career, spanning over 40 years, has had him mining the US' rich cultural history with documentaries on the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Lightnin' Hopkins. He has also worked with Werner Herzog, who makes a brief appearance in tonight's film. – Helen Holtom
