Art: Architecture/Design Jeppe Hein: Appearing Rooms

Berlin-based Jeppe Hein's water fountain is the perfect place to cool down on a sizzling summer day. The grid-like array of aquatic plumes takes its inspiration from the baroque Villa Manin in Italy, where Appearing Rooms was first commissioned to appear. Hein takes the idea of an ornamental fountain and opens it up, resulting in a creation that visitors can enter and explore. The jets of liquid rise and fall, forming ephemeral rooms that can be navigated with water-avoidance or complete soaking in mind. The latter is a much more appealing option than jumping in the adjacent Thames.
