British artist Mat Collishaw's first solo exhibition at Haunch of Venison takes a playful attitude toward visual representation, evoking a child playing with a kaleidoscope. Collishaw reanimates Arnold Böcklin's symbolist masterpiece The Island of the Dead behind a two-way mirror, in an eerie exploration of the space between dream and reality; Shooting Stars continues the gothic theme with phosphorescent projections of Victorian child prostitutes; Throbbing Gristle miniaturises mythology in a fantastical strobe-lit merry-go-round; and the innocent Cottingley Fairy photos provide an ultraviolet encore.
