It may be insufficient to simply label These New Puritans as "avant-garde". The Southend-based minimalists blend Robert E Smith's prole anger, Black Forest's brutalist rhythms and a bit of dancehall just to jazz things up. Headlining the UK finale of Stage of the Art, which brings together British and French musicians, TNP share the line-up with adventurous Gallic musicians. Nelson draw influence from Ian Curtis' tortured repertoire, while Zombie Zombie serve up a dose of wigged-out bizarreness to rival anyone.
