Music: Rock/Pop The Strange Death of Liberal England w/ Thomas Tantrum

This Pompey quintet addresses Situationist, anti-establishment subject matter in a frenzied, quasi-religious style. Band members exchange instruments like participants in a game of hot potato, while a cacophony of screams and operatic vibrato embodies the favoured themes of death and protest. In place of lefty lyrics, the band thrust billboards daubed with demonstration slogans into the crowd, with pounding drums providing a backbone for the noise. The group take their name from George Dangerfield's account of pre-WWI England, and mix academics with dynamics via a loud-soft-loud approach. Support comes from new-wave outfit Thomas Tantrum, among others.
