Art Mashups

Acclaimed curator Stuart Semple and four contemporary artists explore one of the hallmarks of Generation Y in this exhibition that champions juxtaposition. Bearing witness to the world prior to Silicon Valley's explosion and the resulting media revolution, the show defines the "mashup" as a rearticulation of mass culture that rationalises the paradigm shift of digital communication. Each artist takes a different approach in this task: Nathan James reworks pop art fundamentals with symbolic slogans and dehumanised neon portraits, while Piers Secunda turns paint from 2-D texture to 3-D utensil.
