Art: Photography Robert Altman: The Sixties

The photographs of Robert Altman, lensman for Rolling Stone, encapsulate nearly all aspects of the 1960s, from free love and festivals to psychedelia and sit-ins. This is his first UK exhibition, and the atmospheric collection of black-and-white images is a joyous homage to a decade defined by war, revolution and sex, drugs and rock 'n roll. Altman's shots feature hippies and flower children at rallies and dances, but also capture contemporary celebrities, from politically active workout queen Jane Fonda and medical guinea pig/novelist Ken Kesey to musicians like Joni Mitchell and Mick Jagger — many of whom appeared on the cover of the magazine.
