Islington's recently refurbished King's Head Theatre kicked off their "season of premieres" earlier this year, and The Shadowmaster is next on the list. Adapted from J.M. Barrie's Dear Brutus, the fantastical production follows a group of people who have been invited to a country house on a midsummer's eve. Lob, their eccentric host, coerces them into the mysterious woods, where they individually undergo transformation. At once menacing and bewitching, the whimsical narrative is pure Barrie, with the flights of imagination and what-might-have-beens convincingly grounded under the direction of Stephanie Sinclaire.
