Art Zander Blom and Julia Rosa Clark: The Drain of Progress and Hypocrite’s Lament
-
- Zander Blom, Untitled, Bedroom 1 Corner 3, 2.36 pm, Sunday 20 May 2007, Courtesy What if the World Gallery
This exhibition brings together two leading South African artists, Zander Blom and Julia Rosa Clark, in collaboration with Cape Town's WHATIFTHEWORLD / GALLERY. Blom's The Drain of Progress is an installation comprising photographs and text that records the artist's destruction of his own ink-on-paper drawings. Blom's works eventually end up on the walls and ceiling of his house, cut into pieces and re-taped together. Clark's Hypocrite's Lament, meanwhile, is the epitome of the mixed-media piece, combining charity-shop paintings, string, children's books, china animals and general ephemera to dramatic effect.
Note: Check out Zander Blom's image from his series The Drain of Progress featured as this week's cover art.
