Spanning three decades, Joseph Szabo's silver gelatin prints expose life in all its forms on Jones Beach — one of New York State's most popular beach destinations — and document the changing faces of its visitors and their fashions. Like an American version of Martin Parr's candids of British seaside resorts, these images are all about the characters who populate them: one emblematic shot includes tanned and oiled bodybuilders flexing their muscles next to prim, perfectly coiffed ladies, while sullen teenagers bake in bikinis and dance on the promenade.
