More Flavor: Discussion Great British Graphic Novels

Anyone who grew up in Britain in the '80s should be familiar with Raymond Briggs' lovable cast of characters, from the fabulously foul Fungus the Bogeyman to the rambunctious Father Christmas. His distinctive drawings and witty text lend themselves to animation, and two of his best-known works have fittingly been adapted for the screen: The Snowman, which always brings a tear to the eye (Aled Jones' singing notwithstanding); and nuclear cautionary tale When the Wind Blows, featuring John Mills and Peggy Ashcroft as the voices of protagonists Jim and Hilda Bloggs. In a discussion chaired by Rachel Cooke of The Observer, Briggs talks to fellow graphic novelist Bryan Talbot about the art form.
