Red Gate Gallery says…

A drooping rubber picture frame and a waste-paper basket stopped with a bath plug are just two of the bizarre creations on display in Brendan Giles's latest show. In a contemporary twist on the ready-mades of Dadaist Marcel Duchamp, Giles turns everyday objects on their heads and often renders them non-functional. The works are realised in a variety of media, from metal to concrete and, as with much surrealist art (think Magritte's paintings), are imbued with a knowing sense of humour.
