Grimeborn: An Opera Season returns to Arcola Theatre to much fanfare, following last year's successful debut. The coming three weeks feature a cavalcade of contemporary performances mingling with long-established productions, with scarcely a histrionic horn-hatted soprano in sight. Curated by Daniele Guerra, Gian Carlo Menotti's one-act composition The Old Maid and the Thief launches the proceedings this evening. Other highlights include Metta Theatre's The Elephant's Child, a puppet opera based on a Rudyard Kipling tale; the black comedy Ash; and Opera of Surveillance, which sees pop orchestra the Irrepressibles take on an audience-driven narrative.
