Music: Folk/Country Holly Throsby

The current resurgence of folk — evidenced by the Mercury shortlisting of Rachel Unthank and Laura Marling — is not a UK-only phenomenon, as this performance by Holly Throsby proves. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Throsby is here with her band (Bree van Reyk on percussion and Jens Birchall on cello and bass) to play a few dates in support of her third album, A Loud Call. Compared to many of the venues on her tour itinerary, the basement environment of the Electroacoustic Club at the Slaughtered Lamb is rather intimate, making it the ideal place to encounter Throsby's elegant song structures and breathless lyrics.
