Parasol Unit Foundation for Contemporary Art says…

While awaiting the fifth season of Lost, satiate your appetite for fantastical drama by visiting Charles Avery's imaginary island. The Islanders, an ongoing project that began in 2004, exploits a range of media to explore philosophical mysteries with a dash of wit. Avery creates geological formations and cosmological spaces that reflect the human condition. The artist gets his inspiration from the Inner Hebrides, where he grew up, and his taste for the uncanny from artists such as William Blake and Joseph Beuys. His current exhibition includes an enigmatic forest with a mythological creature as its inhabitant, wildlife and a marketplace that sells pickled eggs.
