Performing Arts: Theatre Wilde Night Out

Oscar Wilde is better known for his acerbic wit, Earnest ways and well-earned distaste for the criminal-justice system than his fairy tales. However, long before he was moved to pen The Ballad of Reading Gaol, Wilde produced two books of richly layered fairy tales that are both sinister and lavish in equal measure. With this one-man show from the Iris Theatre at St Paul’s in Covent Garden, actor and director Mark Ponsford showcases five such stories, including Wilde’s most famous fairy tale, "The Happy Prince". As in the author's time, these stories are intended for a discerning audience of indiscriminate age.
