Paradise Row says…

This powerful series of new work by photographic collaborators Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin chronicles the artists' time spent with the British Army on the front line in Afghanistan's Helmand Province. Rejecting traditional photojournalism for the technique of exposing photographic paper to the sun, the pair responded to events that took place during June — the month in which British combat fatalities reached 100. The ensuing abstract works result from specific moments in time but are devoid of recognisable content, which opens a space for the viewer to reflect on conflict and suffering without the influence of visual representation.
