Performing Arts: Theatre Ivanov

Tom Stoppard, one of the 20th century's finest dramatists, makes over the work of Chekhov, arguably the 19th century's greatest playwright, in the Donmar's new version of the Russian's first play. Probably Chekhov's most obscure work, Ivanov follows the misfortunes of a government official, Nikolai Ivanov (Kenneth Branagh) who embarks on a downward spiral after his wife, Anna (Gina McKee), falls terminally ill and he sinks deeper into debt and despair. Branagh's inclusion will mean full houses, so advance booking is recommended.
