The National Maritime Museum's archive of photographs, posters and memorabilia provides fascinating insight into a boom time for the British coast. In the mid-1800s, rail travel transformed formerly sleepy seaside towns into the bustling resorts of knotted handkerchiefs, rolled-up trousers, saucy postcards and fish and chips that we recognise today.
