Artangel presents Catherine Yass' cinematic exploration of the physical dexterity and mental stamina of high-wire walker Didier Pasquette. Having captured Pasquette's vertiginous meanderings between the tower blocks of Glasgow's Red Road estate, Yass distills his aerial feats into a series of light boxes and a multiscreen video installation. Paying homage to this protégé of Twin Towers high-wire walker Philippe Petite, Yass focuses on the psychological strength needed to traverse a wire 90 metres above the ground and the immense open space that surrounds a lone walker. The show is appropriately housed in St Pancras' German Gymnasium — a lofty Victorian building that is said to be the first purpose-built gym in Britain.
