Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art says…

Though it is now enjoying something of a revival, thanks largely to software such as Photoshop, photomontage was at the height of its popularity during the first half of the 20th century. The term was invented by the Berlin Dadaists, and the composite images built from several separate photographs were frequently used in Communist propaganda. This show brings together some of the best examples of the medium from artists such as Berlin-born George Grosz, Latvian Gustav Klucis and Italian designer Bruno Munari.
