Over a packed three days, performers, directors and playwrights gather at Soho Theatre to investigate political activism through their chosen art form. Of special note is Monde Wani's one-man show The Rivonia Trial, which journeys through South Africa's turbulent past with Wani playing all the characters, from Nelson Mandela to pro-apartheid prime minister Hendrik Verwoerd. Jennipher Antoni's play The Luckless Angel remembers the victims of the Beslan massacre through Heiner Müller's powerful poetry, as well as the testimonies of those who lost their children. A workshop led by the artistic director of Sudan's Kwoto Cultural Centre explores how to stage political theatre, and a panel discussion questions whether theatre can bring about change.
