The Almeida presents Waste, Harley Granville-Barker's play about scandal that also provoked its own share of controversy. The story centres upon idealistic politician Henry Trebell, whose promising political career is brought down by an affair with a married woman. The play was infamously banned in 1907 and not licensed till the '20s. Considered to be a theatrical masterpiece that delves into the foundations of politics and power structures, the production, helmed here by actor-turned-director Samuel West, is a riveting exposé of late Victorian society.
