British artist Roger Hiorns leaves his trademark chemical trace in new project Seizure, commissioned by Artangel and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation. Hiorns focuses his attention on a housing estate near London Bridge, engineering a transformation of the concrete structure through a cystallisation process that leaves behind glittering, organic formations that gradually envelope the urban maze in electrifying chemical colours. At the heart of his work two worlds collide — the supposedly rational, manmade structure with the unpredictable, fragile crystal colonies. Seizure continues Artangel's preoccupation with opening up London's unprepossessing spaces, with previous commissions based at New Oxford Street's old sorting office and a patch of land that became home to Rachel Whiteread's House.
