Receiving its London premiere tonight courtesy of the English National Ballet is legendary choreographer Sir Kenneth Macmillan's interpretation of Manon Lescaut. (This version of Abbé Prévost's 18th-century novel was first brought to the stage by the Royal Danish Ballet in 2003.) Heroine Manon is forced to choose between two suitors — the innocent love of student Renato des Grieux or a corrupt relationship with Monsieur GM — but her decision ends in tragedy. The Jules Massenet score and stunning costumes render the production a joy to encounter.
