The Macabre Masterpiece of Terror at Monika Bobinska Gallery celebrates B-movie aesthetics and what they say about '50s socio-political conditions. Three large-scale works by Kirsten Glass, Adam King and Peter Lamb use inexpensive, ephemeral materials — charity-shop items, magazine clippings, photographs — to revive the kitsch look of the period's low-budget flicks. Using collages, paintings and photographs, all laced with dark humour, the exhibition exposes the ugly realities underpinning popular art of the time, such as rise of the West's obsession with celebrity and consumption.
