Sam Jackson's art can shock and thrill, even inspire repulsion and obsession — often all at the same time. Despite painting on a stridently intimate scale (his work is often referred to as "miniature"), Jackson's style is nevertheless physically charged and densely rendered. He employs the illusion of harmlessness to render subject matter that is explicitly sexual and often violent. This unexpected juxtaposition makes for unforgettable paintings that blend high and low culture: both guilty pleasure and meaningful moment for contemporary British art.
