Note:
The film plays as part of a ICA retrospective, Jarmusch in Context.
Drawing on revenge thrillers and film noir, Jim Jarmusch's latest film, The Limits of Control, is a complex delight. The plot centres on the near-silent Lone Man, played by Isaach de Bankolé, as he journeys through Spain on an unspecified mission. The beauty of rural and urban Spain is skillfully captured by director of photography Chris Doyle, as the protagonist journeys between the cryptic musings of Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Gael García Bernal, to name but a few. Scenarios and phrases are repeated, giving the film a self-referential quality and a persistent sense of inconclusiveness.
