“Gabriel Dubois grew up in Canada but his influences transcend geography — from his father's painting studio to the global underground skate-culture network and his eventual travels to the farthest corners of the continents. His facility for soaking in local influences is perfectly expressed in his painting technique; a mash-up of styles, media and found materials. His new work — gestural abstraction with nods to street-art and the occasional photo collage — has been made with materials the artist found in the gallery's neighbourhood environs.”
