Illumini is arming brave souls with a flashlight and inviting them to experience the disused stations, crypts and waterways of subterranean London. Descend into the bowels of Shoreditch Town Hall for the free opening night (Thur 9 Sep), featuring stilt walkers, tarot readers and the work of more than 50 artists. Over the next five days there are creative workshops, artist talks and virtual tours of the Post Office's miniature underground railway and Hatton Garden silver vaults. Hardcore subterraneans can explore Shakespeare's church (St Leonard's in Shoreditch) and witness a unique art installation in Brunel's Thames tunnel (£5). There's even an app for the event that exploits the GPS capability of mobile phones to create a bespoke tour. Just don't lose signal down there.
