“Stuart Pearson Wright's second solo exhibition at Riflemaker sees further development of his scintillating and unique approach to portraiture. It's more than ten years since Wright won the BP Portrait Award aged just 26 and while his slightly surreal style may not be to everyone's taste – or in keeping with the hyper-realism seen elsewhere – his precise, detailed oil-on-canvas approach is contemporary while drawing on the tropes of many different ages. Part of the exhibition is devoted to tattoo portraits, redefining motifs such as the Victorian strongman in "Andy from Ipswich" and the wonderfully gothic "Dicky".”
