“Gavin Turk's new exhibition at Ben Brown Fine Art is inspired by the work of Alighiero Boetti, the Italian conceptual artist who died in 1994. Boetti, who is currently featured in a retrospective at Tate Modern, became famous for his Mappa tapestries, created by local artisans during visits to Kabul and Pakistan. Turk turns to prisoners (courtesy of reform charity Fine Cell Work) for the workmanship for his tapestries, providing powerful responses to Boetti's work. Mappa del Mundo, a view of the earth created using everyday rubbish, is also part of the exhibition.”
