Internationally acclaimed, Berkeley-based artist Brendan Monroe returns to Richard Heller Gallery — one of the West Side's premier sources of contemporary art — for Insides, an exhibition featuring organic, masterfully peaceful faces and thick, earthy forms. The canvases illustrate the relationships between the body and its interior parts: in one case, the artist depicts a beautiful woman resting supine, encapsulated by the throbbing blood that fills her circulatory system. The resulting mind/body contemplation is the equivalent of a midday yoga class for art enthusiasts.
