While French artist Mathieu Briand is best known for his ambitious sound installations, with UBÏQ: A Mental Odyssey, he takes things significantly further. A multimedia piece in every sense of the word, UBÏQ propagates a strange vision of the future, integrating the utopian/dystopian philosophies of Philip K. Dick into an all-sensory experience informed by a series of artistic intersections. Encountering traditional installation and modern multimedia, viewers don helmets equipped with cameras and small interior video displays. Once plugged in, a perspective-switching button makes viewing the world — and discerning one's place in it — considerably more involved.
