Ironically, LA-based Jennifer Faist uses one of the most labor-intensive, obsessive processes imaginable to create serene, harmonious, and even poetic monochromes. After applying, setting, sanding, and re-applying acrylic paint and gesso in what seems like hundreds of layers, she achieves powerful, compact surfaces with an illusion of great depth and movement. By broadening the spectrum of light-based patterns within single, luminous sheets of color, Faist evokes and honors the people, places, and moods of her life.
