If LA-based video artist Pascual Sisto had been born a century earlier, he and Salvador Dalí would have been best buds. Like his Spanish countryman, but with a much lighter touch, Sisto manipulates and recontextualizes ordinary places and objects, forcing viewers out of their visual comfort zones and into a state of heightened awareness. Combining stock footage such as explosions and freeway traffic with staged events (50 basketballs bouncing in unison for 20 minutes, for example) and deft post-production, Sisto coaxes audio and video elements into elegant choreographies that subvert physical reality.
