Three newcomers to the LA art scene — Kim Kimbro, Barry Baldwin, and Doro Hofmann — open individual mini-exhibitions tonight at Lawrence Asher Gallery. Kimbro's paintings feature anthropomorphic animals as expressions of our primal behaviors. German painter Hofmann incorporates portraiture into prism-like collages bursting with color, contemporizing medieval icons and referencing mass media and advertising. Adding dimension to the wall work are English transplant Barry Baldwin's sculptures — provocative female forms executed in smooth, white-painted bronze and stone. Together, the works of these artists both challenge and excite the senses with well-crafted and meticulous forms.
