The Scion Installation LA Space says…

Mark Mothersbaugh, the DEVO diva-turned-soundtrack composer, designs rugs the way David Byrne designs chairs — as humorous objects, not items of sleek chic. Mothersbaugh's idiosyncratic creations, on view at the Scion Installation LA Space, are room-stealers; many of them sport Crumb-like figures or other small creatures in bizarre narratives. A large brown rug depicts two blue characters, a small round creature, and a person with an index finger for a face, pointing at one another in an awkward standoff. A square rug showing a lip-locked couple in red, orange, and yellow swathes is a clear homage to Roy Lichtenstein's comic-influenced silkscreens. Mothersbaugh's haute-Americana creations inject surrealist and pop-art energy into the living room.
