This month's installment of Let's Independent takes a turn for the twee, with a triple bill of local bands who love a good lilting melody. Though they're not from the UK (and please don't ask), the ladies of Echo Park duo Hearts of Palm UK still purr and bounce through melancholy, retro pop tunes like cotton candy hurtling through a thunderstorm. Of course, boys love a good cry, too — Marvelous Toy, another east-side pair boasting self-pity as deep and frothy as a bubble bath, open with Letting Up Despite Great Faults, whose penchant for Casio-driven electronica provokes grins aplenty.
