Alejandro Gehry may be the son of uber-architect Frank, but it's his co-exhibitor, Brian Biedul, whose work really focuses on spatiality. In Raw Space, Biedul employs the more traditional mediums of oil, canvas, and bronze — as well as the classic nude — to explore the constraints of space on bodies, while Gehry's paintings deal with boundaries more abstractly via vibrant colors, patterns, and pared-down line drawings. Together, they inspire a conversation between unlikely aesthetic sensibilities, with the juxtaposition of rough, exuberant splashes and precise, sensual beauty articulating a contradiction at the heart of the LA visual dialect.
