Inspired by the groundbreaking mixed-media assemblages of Betye Saar and Joseph Cornell, Ashley McLean Emenegger explores themes of masculinity and femininity through evocative combinations of buttons, dolls, wax, wood, fabric, and other romantic detritus. While Paul Pitsker's work is limited to two dimensions, his perfectly detailed watercolors similarly present complex subject matter swathed in deceivingly innocent aesthetics.
