As part of its ongoing series of exhibitions spotlighting Venice Beach's legendarily talented denizens, the Brickhouse Kitchen welcomes Monica Martinez and her post-punk-y folklorico fantasies. Her strange, romantic pictures reinvigorate the rich tradition of Latin-American painting and printmaking with an irreverent, modern, and thoroughly urban sensibility. Martinez's work trades on rich, expressive lines and imagery encompassing the religious and the superstitious, the spiritual, the humorous, the sexy, and the unsettling.
