Carol Wells, director of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics, once said that protest posters' true power was their ability to grab one's attention when it's least expected, forcing the viewer into a new perspective. Exhibitions of her collections have drawn the kind of controversy Damien Hirst could only hope for, proving that images are indeed among the most powerful tools in political speech. In conjunction with The Graphic Imperative, the Luckman Gallery's exhibition of political posters from around the world, Wells speaks tonight.
